Are the stats for the BAR the same as a MG?

Along with Kyle's question above, I'm hoping a US Paratrooper BAR man becomes available during the KickStrater campaign. (?) It would be one of my most desired additional figures to add to the "core four" 101st Airborne miniatures (the shotgun-armed trooper would be my least desired). Having the option to include the BAR in-game, to mix in (or out) of an American scenario force, would add an important balancing factor IMO, and especially so if a number of StG44-armed grenadiers for the 26th VGD become available during the KickStarter too!

Are the stats for the BAR the same as a MG? Nope, the BAR was really an automatic rifle, it was used as a LMG but sustained fire was practically impossible with a single weapon, standard practice was to use two, one shooting while the other reloaded. Accordingly the BAR has no SF capability (meaning you can lay SF with it of course but not using a single weapon) and also has Shots 2 (reflecting the small magazine and the fact it can't easily replace the barrel), but although very bulky and heavy it was designed to be portable, so it can do Move and Fire and throw 3 dice at S range, which makes it effectively as good as a SMG at close range with the extra bonus of rolling 2 dice at L range to reflect the much more powerful ammo compared to SMG and Assault rifles. Also another reason for the L2 is that it had a pretty good sight and it could be fairly accurate for the first shot compared to a SMG or a MG (especially if using the bipod) but after that it was basically impossible to keep it on target, so we found that the best way to simulate that was no Aim capability but extra punch at long range...

In this particular theater the US forces have an advantage at long range, while the Germans are better off at short range, which reflects quite well the historical situation. But then the US airborne become again markedly better in close combat, reflecting the fact they were elite troops, picked from particularly fit recruits, well trained and armed with knives or even (in the case of the NCO) with the powerful .45

I've been refreshing my memory on the Ardennes Offensive, and even pulled from the shelf a two volume book series I had never gotten around to reading until now: The Battle Of The Bulge In Luxembourg, by Roland Gaul. Volume 1 details the formation and combat accounts of the German divisions on the southern flank of the offensive, and gives fairly good details about the reforming of the 5th Fallschrimjager Division, and the 352nd VGD (which was similar to the game-featured 26th VGD that was assigned to the 5th Panzer Army). What did strike me, was the ready supply of the StG43/44 assault rifles for equipping these reformed divisions, and this certainly reinforces what Claudio has hinted at above in his above comments.
